2 day RSPO-endorsed RSPO SCC training course.

The first 2 day training courses of 2014, held in Amsterdam and Kuala Lumpur during the 2nd week of January, proved to be popular and very successful. They were witnessed by 3 representatives of the RSPO and the delegates were all highly complimentary about the content and style of delivery. The first day was dedicated to the RSPO SCC Standard and included an introduction to oil palm plantations, the palm oil mills and the huge benefits to the indigenous peoples of RSPO certification. The four supply chain models were explained in detail and practical examples and explanations used throughout. The benefits of multi-site certification for companies with multiple and similar facilities were examined as were the benefits and practicalities of Group Certification for companies that use up to 500mt of palm oil and / or palm kernel oil derivatives per year. The use of the RSPO trademark was summarised and the RSPO RED explained. I have produced a clear explanation of Oleochemicals and C Chains and how to simply calculate the quantities of crude palm oil or palm kernel oil required to produce a given quantity of different oleochemicals and I was greatly relieved when my presentation and paper was wholly endorsed by the RSPO Supply Chain Manager. The second day was dedicated to auditing techniques and the RSPO SC Systems. Once again I used practical examples as to how to conduct audits and I pay particular attention to helping any less experienced auditors. The 2.5 hour examination was preceded by a practical exercise and was completed by 1630. All delegates opted to use their lap tops to answer the examination questions and either emailed me their answers or used a flash drive. This made the marking very much easier and I could write comments onto individual papers to help delegates further with their understanding of the RSPO SCC requirements. All papers were marked by 1700 on the day of the examination and all delegates received certificates and returned papers by 1730. The next 2 day courses are: Thursday 15th and Friday 16th May 2014. Berlin. Novotel Berlin Mitte. Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21st May 2014. Jakarta. Shangri-La Hotel. David.
